Gdańsk University Choir was founded in 1971. So far it has performed several hundred concerts in Poland and abroad. The choir have sung in many European countries, such as Austria, Belgium, Belarus, Bulgaria, Denmark, France, Spain, Holland, Luxembourg, Latvia, Germany, San Marino, Switzerland, Sweden, Hungary, Italy - and in the USA and South Korea. The choir have also performed several times for Pope John Paul II - for instance in 1997 they participated in the musical setting of the New Year Mass in the Vatican inaugurating the celebrations of Gdańsk's thousand-year anniversary.
The Academic Choir of the University of Gdańsk, apart from a capella pieces from Polish and international cmoposers representing various musical styles and times, also performs oratorial music by, among others, J.S. Bach, L. van Beethoven, L. Bernstein, J. Brahms, A. Bruckner, M. Durufle, G. Faure, H.M. Górecki, J. Haydn, G.F Haendel, S. Moniuszko, G. Mahler, W.A. Mozart, C. Orff, G. Puccini, A. Ramirez, G. Rossini, J. Sibelius, G. Verdi, B.A. Zimmerman. The choir has also made first-time performances of pieces by modern Polish composers such as: W.H. Czaja, H. Czyżewski, E. Głowski, K. Guzowski, Z. Kozub, T. Krezymon, S. Kwiatkowski, . Łopaszyńska, E. Popławski, W. Trzciński. Since 1992 the conductor and artistic manager of the AChUG has been Marcin Tomczak.
